Rail managers and trade union officials are preparing for talks on a threatened strike on the ScotRail network.

Members of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) are due to take part in the action on 22 December and Christmas Eve.

They voted to strike in support of Scott Lewis, who was dismissed by ScotRail.

ScotRail have described the planned strike as a "clear attack" on the travelling public.

The company has claimed that most trains will still run even if the strike goes ahead.

Details of the incident involving Mr Lewis which led to his departure from ScotRail are disputed.

The RMT have claimed that he was merely trying to ensure that a man on board a train purchased the correct ticket.

RMT General Secretary Bob Crow has called for Mr Lewis to be reinstated.

He said: "Scott Lewis has been victimised and sacked for trying to help a passenger within the written procedures set out in ScotRail's own policies in what is an absolute travesty of justice."

ScotRail has said it hopes the talks with union representatives will be "meaningful and successful".
