The son of Portsmouth South MP Mike Hancock has been charged with assaulting a photographer outside his father's home.

Dean Hancock, 37, from Fareham was held over an altercation on Thursday morning outside a property in Rockingham Way, Fareham.

Hampshire police said "a reporter received an injury to his nose".

He has been bailed to appear at Fareham Magistrates' Court on 12 February.

Mr Hancock MP was formally suspended by the Lib Dems on Wednesday.

The suspension followed a leaked document into claims of sexual misconduct towards a female constituent.

The report, by Nigel Pascoe QC, said the woman deserved "compassion and respect" and that the account she gave was "credible".

A police investigation into the claims, which Mr Hancock denies, found no further action should be taken.

Mr Hancock currently sits in the Commons as an independent MP, having stood down from the Lib Dems in Parliament to contest the allegations of sexual impropriety in a High Court civil action.
