One dead after car and bus collide

A man has died and 13 people have been injured, one critically, in a collision between a car and a bus in east London.

The route N38 bus and the car crashed on Lea Bridge Road, at its junction with Essex Wharf, in Clapton at about 02:20 BST, the Met Police said.

The dead man and the critically injured man were travelling in the car.

Two other men, who were in the back of the car, are in a serious but stable condition. All four are believed to be in their mid-20s.

No arrests

Ambulance crews treated 10 other people who were passengers on the N38 night bus which was travelling towards Whipps Cross. The crash took place close to the Lee Valley Ice Centre.

A number of the bus passengers were taken to hospital by another bus, but were described by police as walking wounded.

No arrests have been made, police said.

Road closures are in place from Chatsworth Road with the junction of Lea Bridge Road to Orient Way at the junction with Lea Bridge Road.
