Tipper truck crash suspects released

Two men arrested after a tipper truck crash in Bath that left four people dead, including a four-year-old girl, have been bailed by police.

The 30-tonne truck, which careered down Lansdown Lane hitting vehicles and pedestrians, crashed on 9 February.

A 19-year-old man, believed to be Philip Potter who was driving the truck, was held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Mitzi Steady died along with three men. Her grandmother remains critically ill.

Avon and Somerset Police said the 19-year-old suspect was also questioned on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence, along with a 28-year-old man.

Both were released on bail pending further inquiries, a force spokesman said.

Phil Allen, 52, and Stephen Vaughan, 34, from Swansea and Robert Parker, 59, of Cwmbran, also died when the truck overturned onto the Volvo car they were in.

An investigation into what caused the truck to crash is continuing.

Detectives are looking at the aggregate load it was carrying as well as any potential mechanical faults.
