A vet investigating the alleged poisoning of a Crufts dog has reportedly said it was "unlikely" to have happened during the competition.
Irish setter Jagger died after the event, having allegedly eaten beef laced with poison.
However, the Belgian vet who treated him said he "doubted" the poisoning happened at Crufts, held in Birmingham.
Jagger's Leicester-based co-owners have claimed he must have been poisoned "while on his bench" at the show.
'Suspicion of intoxication'Jagger, known as Thendara Satisfaction, died on Saturday morning after returning to Belgium with fellow owner Aleksandra Lauwers.
Dr Patrick Jans, the Belgian vet who treated him, told The Sun Ms Lauwers had contacted him at around 02:00 GMT.
"There was a suspicion of intoxication," he said. "Ms Lauwers told us that they returned at night and the dogs were walked to do their business," he said.
"It was a long time between England and the trip over to here, where nothing wrong was seen with the dog."
"I doubt it happened at Crufts," he told the newspaper.
"I think that is unlikely and I am surprised everyone is saying this is the case."
Mrs Lauwers posted a message on her Facebook page saying toxicological tests were being carried out at Ghent University's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, with results expected in about a week's time.
'Anonymous sources'Jagger's fellow owner Dee Milligan-Bott has claimed the dog must have been given the meat "while on his bench at Crufts".
Dr Jans said the toxicology report could shed light on the timescale of the dog's death.
The Kennel Club, which organises Crufts, said it had received "no information" about allegations a second dog - a shih tzu - died following the event.
