The incident happened at about 14:00 BST on Good Friday
Police investigating how a boy received serious burn injuries in Aberdeen say there is "no evidence" so far of "any deliberate act".
The seven-year-old was taken to hospital after the incident - which is thought to have involved petrol - in the city's Bedford Avenue.
Ch Insp Nick Topping, of Police Scotland, promised a "full and thorough investigation".
The boy is in a serious condition at Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital.
Emergency services were called to flats on Bedford Avenue at about 14:00 BST on Friday.
One of the boy's neighbours reported hearing him "screaming and crying" after the incident, which police said left him with "quite serious" burns.
Ch Insp Topping, the local area commander, said: "A full and thorough investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing. So far there has been no evidence of any deliberate act and our enquiries continue.
"We are supporting the family at this time and are continuing to speak to members of the local community to establish the full circumstances."
He appealed to witnesses or anyone with information to contact Police Scotland on 101.
