A fifty-one-year-old man is missing after being swept out the sea while scattering ashes in North Cornwall.
The man was last seen at Port William when he was caught by a large wave.
Two other members of the group he was with went into the sea in an attempt to rescue him but were unsuccessful.
Neil Oliver, Falmouth Coastguard watch manager, said: "We have now been searching for four hours and sadly the man has not been found yet."
Two coastguard rescue teams from Boscastle and Port Isaac, the Padstow RNLI Lifeboat and a search and rescue helicopter from RAF Chivenor have all been assisting with the operation.
"The helicopter and lifeboats have now completed their searches but the two coastguard rescue teams continue their search," Mr Oliver said.
"Conditions this evening have been unfavourable with gale force winds and rough seas."
